How prices work

Real prices from real places, checked before they go live. A guide to what you should pay, not a quote.

Short version: every price comes from a menu, from someone who paid it, or from our estimate of what that kind of place usually charges. Each one is labelled, so you always know which is which.

Where prices come from

Reports. People tell us what they paid, ideally with a photo of the menu, board or receipt.
Menus. Prices taken straight from a venue's own menu, dated so you can see how fresh they are.
Estimates. Where nobody has reported yet, we show what that type of place usually charges. These are marked "not yet reported here" and never counted as real prices.

How a report goes live

A report goes live straight away only when the evidence backs it up:

the reporter's phone was at the venue when they reported, or
their photo shows the same price (an automated reader checks it), or
someone else, on a different phone, reported the same price at the same place within 30 days.

Everything else, including any report without a photo, waits for a person to check it against what we already know for that item and place. Brand-new items are always checked first.

What the labels mean

High confidence: photo and location both matched the venue.
Medium confidence: a photo, a menu, or two people agreeing.
Low confidence: one report with no photo, approved after a check.
Estimate: typical for that kind of place, not seen at this venue.

The price ladder

The same drink costs very different amounts at a shop, a local spot, a bar or a club. We group prices by type of place and show the middle price (the median) for each, using the best evidence first. One odd report can't drag the typical price up or down.

Dates and currency

"Latest price recorded" is the newest real price we have for that item. Prices are kept in Ghana cedis and shown in your currency at the current exchange rate, so treat conversions as close, not exact. Your card or exchange might give you a different rate.
